Tongue & Groove

WIRE BRUSHED:

J

As the name suggests, this finish is understated yet truly remarkable. Created with our modern, American-made brushing machine, it combines elements of a “dock of the bay” aesthetic with hints of “burn and brush,” resulting in a finish that is uniquely beautiful.

The brushing process enhances the durability of Fir and Pine floors by removing the softer spring wood between the growth rings. This not only improves wear but also creates fascinating effects with stain, adding a subtle three-dimensional quality that’s difficult to replicate with other finishes.

This finish offers an even, level surface that’s easy to live with, providing a stunning, distinctive look at a reasonable price.

MOUNTAIN HIGH GRADE:

This timeless, elegant floor is our best-selling design, crafted from either Douglas Fir or Ponderosa Pine. It represents our in-house character grade flooring, where we embrace the natural beauty of the wood rather than grading out clear sections.

Our character grade flooring maintains a premium quality, as all defects are carefully removed to ensure a flawless appearance. Thanks to our exceptional sawing and drying methods, you’ll receive book-matched boards and sequential pairs, enhancing the cohesive and sophisticated look of your floor.

SKIP PLANED:

Similar to Circle Sawn, this finish features the distinctive marks of a band saw, offering a slightly more refined look while retaining plenty of character. Like its counterpart, the roughness is smoothed out using our advanced dual-drum buffing sander. This process allows the band-sawn areas to absorb more stain than the surrounding smooth wood, creating beautiful tonal contrasts and a rich, textured effect.

This versatile finish pairs seamlessly with most stains and is remarkably easy to maintain. Its even surface makes it comfortable to live with, while its textured appearance helps conceal dirt. With the right stain color, it complements a wide range of architectural styles, making it a popular and adaptable choice.

CIRCLE SAWN:

Crafted using an authentic circular saw, the marks on this floor are completely genuine—no imitations here! This design, particularly in our flagship color, OW#2, has graced fine homes, restaurants, clubhouses, and even a few billionaires’ lodges and cabins.

A true homage to the Railroad Era, this floor was proudly selected by the U.S. Park Service for the historic Buffalo Bill Cody Cabin on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. Its authenticity and timeless appeal make it a standout choice for any space.

HAND SCRAPED:

Hand scraping has become one of the most popular finishing techniques in the flooring industry. Over a decade ago, we showcased this distinctive style at a major flooring expo, and it was immediately imitated by others.

While we offer many unique finishes that you won’t find anywhere else, we’re proud to say that we were pioneers of this look. If you love the timeless appeal of hand-scraped floors, we’ll customize it to perfectly match your taste and needs.

HAND PLANED:

This exclusive floor showcases a finish created using carefully tuned block planes. This floor is not the same as "hand-scraped", although we do that too! . Each plank is meticulously crafted to achieve a museum-grade representation of a hand-adzed or hand-planed floor, reminiscent of those found in fine frontier homes.

The surface is gently sanded to prevent splinters, allowing it to absorb stain beautifully—especially in areas around knots, where the knives naturally pull or tear the wood for a unique texture. This hand-planing process ensures that no two boards are exactly alike, offering an authenticity that cannot be replicated by machines.

SUMMIT COUNTY:

This exclusive floor design was originally created in collaboration with the owner of a renowned ski area for a corporate retreat in Summit County, Colorado. It quickly gained popularity with other customers and has since become one of our personal favorites.

The finish is a stunning combination of skip-planed, hand-planed, and hand-scraped techniques, featuring a unique "Cobbler Finish." This effect is achieved by using various hammers to create clusters of peened areas, adding character and depth. The inspiration for this finish came from a 19th-century cobbler’s table in the owner’s living room in Santa Fe.

This design is truly one-of-a-kind—you won’t find it anywhere else. We tailor each piece to your desired finish, style, and color preferences.

Note:
Our floors are available in both finished and unfinished options. Unless otherwise specified, they come in standard widths of 3 ¼”, 5 ¼”, and 7 ¼”. For those seeking something broader, we also offer a special 8 ½” wide plank option.

All standard planks are ¾” thick, with custom thicknesses available upon request. The material is kiln-dried to below 7% moisture content, tongue-and-grooved, but not end-matched. While a few knots may require filling based on personal preference, we carefully select only sound, visually appealing knots. In fact, we grade our knots to ensure quality.

Our planks are supplied in random lengths ranging from 10’ down to 18”, with an average length exceeding 5’. This variety is a hallmark of responsible forestry practices. Each order includes a thoughtfully curated mix of boards to achieve the desired aesthetic for your project.
